9 Mile Canyon Drive

Note:  You can still get rooms (first come, first serve) after next week on our group rate, but please don't wait until last minute as it will fill up fast.  Cancellation policy:  Must cancel within 24 hrs. of check in date or by 2:00 pm on Sept. 16th to avoid charges.  Late check-in is OK.  Hotel has 24 hr. Outline of Trip:  We will leave Friday evening and meet at 6:00 pm in Salt Lake Valley at Harmon's Grocery store, where we usually meet, just off Bangerter Hwy. exit and I-15. We will travel on I-15 to Spanish Fork Exit onto Hwy. 6 and go to Price and stay the night there and get up early and go to the Price USU Eastern Prehistoric Museumlocated at 155 E. Main Street to view artifacts on display there from 9 Mile Canyon. It opens at 9 am.  We will then leave mid-morning and go about 7-8 miles to Wellington and start our 46 mile drive to view prehistoric artwork, structures and artifacts from 8,000 years ago in historic Nine-Mile Canyon.  This road is fully paved and there are Mile Markers along the route with points of interest displayed.  This includes the First Site (the first major rock art site in the canyon), Balanced Rock, Daddy Canyon Complex, Gate Canyon, Fremont Village, Big Buffalo Site, and the Great Hunt Panel of petroglyphs. among other sites.  We can also pick up a lunch and eat it somewhere in the canyon or decide down there what to do. Not staying Friday night?   For those not wanting to stay the Friday night and only want to come for the Saturday drive, be in Price at 9:00 am for the Museum or if for the drive only, be there by about 10:30- 11:00 at latest.   I am told by the Utah's Castle Country Tourism Office that this will be one of the best weekends of the year to view these sites.
